Mock Technical Interview

Like any skill, the more you practice, the better you become. The old adage holds true: Practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to job interviews. That's why at this stage of your learning journey, you'll have the chance to practice your interview skills.

What is a mockup technical interview?

A mockup technical interview is a simulation of a job interview used for training purposes. The exercise resembles a real interview as closely as possible to help you understand what is expected in a real job interview and helps you to improve your presentation.

When are the mockup interviews and what else should I know about them?

The mockup technical interviews will last approximately 30 minutes and right after the interview, you will have 15 minutes to receive feedback on your performance and suggestions to improve further.

You can schedule the mock interview session independently with your mentor. Interviews should happen within career week 3.

How should I prepare for the interviews?

You should please:

• check the mock interview job profile and

• the Interview Preparation Repo and

• prepare for the mock technical interview by preparing the technical assignment.

During the tech interview you will most likely be asked technical questions about the curriculum in general. To prepare for this interview, we strongly recommend you go through the most common technical questions and have your project ready to show and explain to the interviewer.

Interview steps

• We will ask you to explain a couple of tech concepts based on the case study

• We will ask you to demo the project to us as if we have never seen it

• We will ask you to demo the code to explain how the app works

• Lastly we will ask you some questions about the code. These are things like:

  • Why did you use x?

  • Shouldn’t that be written as x?

  • How did you solve x?

To assess your preparation to the technical interview, we will check:

• How did you perform in the assignment

• How well did you answer the concept questions

• How well did you explain your code

• Could you understand and talk about the code easily

To prepare for this interview, you should:

• Practice the demonstration of your technical assignment, make sure it is short and concise

• Go through the curriculum and make sure that you can explain all the concepts discussed

• Go through the code of the technical assignment and make sure you understand how it is built
